China - Gongga - Part 3 - Base Camp

Here it is, base camp - about 14,200 feet:

A little pancake action:

We took a couple days to hike around and get used to the altitude.

Here's a view of our camp from across the valley. The lower arrow is our camp. The upper arrow is the peak we were trying to climb. (oops is it obscured in the clouds? Well we wouldn't want to give away too much information now would we)

Our little Windwing training kite was a huge source of entertainment:

We made a short-lived attempt on the peak, carrying a load to 17,000 feet.

Looking down on our base camp:

The view out toward the south and west - endless peaks:

More kite flying:

We retrieved our gear from the mountain and spent a couple more days in base camp before continuing down valley.

I am writing this late at night, trying to eek out the last internet connection before we go to Litang. So I'll have to finish this up in a couple weeks...

Great pics. I am sad to see that Janousek is not sporting as much Patagonia gear as I had anticipated - or is he? Good luck with your travels! KP
